Ontario's Provincial Nominee Quota for 2024 Reaches 21,500

On 5 April 2024, the Canadian province of Ontario (Ontario) announced this year's provincial nomination quota, a whopping 21,500, more than previously expected. Last year, Ontario completed 16,506 provincial nominations. According to the official website of the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) announced on 5 April 2024, they have received the provincial nomination quota allocated by the federal government for the year 2024, and therefore 21,500 provincial nominations will be issued in 2024 in Ontario.

This notice highlights that the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program will not notify the Immigrant Intentions Form system or the Fast Track system in advance of the lottery draw, and that all relevant information will be published and available on the official website in a timely manner. Therefore, it is recommended that eligible applicants submit their applications as early as possible, as it is not possible to determine in advance when an Invitation to Apply (ITA) will be issued.

In the last year, the Ontario Masters category issued the most provincial nominations, totalling 5,407; the Express Lanes Human Resources Priority category issued 4,985; the Express Lanes Skilled Trades category reached 3,017; and the Ontario Employer Sponsored category had 1,122. And there were 856 places in the International Students category, showing the challenges faced by post-secondary students.

In addition, the official website of the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OPNP) has stopped accepting immigration intent forms for the Entrepreneurial Immigrant Investor category as of December 4, 2023, and it is expected that there will be a policy change before the program reopens.
