Canadian EE cancels LMIA extra points

The Canadian government is committed to strengthening the integrity of the country's immigration system and hoping to attract outstanding talents from all over the world to work in Canada, so it has begun to gradually update and improve the system.
On December 23, 2024, in order to prevent and reduce fraud in the immigration system, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Marc Miller announced that Express Entry candidates will no longer be eligible for Get extra points for job opportunities.
The purpose of this temporary measure is to eliminate illegal purchases or sales in the labor market that could affect assessments. This change will take effect in spring 2025.
Once effective, these changes will affect candidates seeking permanent residence through the Express Entry system, including those currently working in Canada temporarily. However, these changes will not affect candidates who have been invited to apply or are in the process of applying. Once this change is implemented, it will apply to all candidates with job offers in the talent pool as well as new candidates entering the talent pool.
Immigration Canada believes that immigration is critical to economic success and growth and continues to welcome new immigrants to support key industries while ensuring that Canada has the skilled workers it needs to grow its economy. These changes help create a well-governed and fair immigration system.

Friends International has something to say:
To put it simply, eliminating the job opportunity as a bonus point means that more emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s other scoring items, which mainly include:
- Core/human capital factors; (age, education, language, work experience in Canada)
- Spouse factors (education, language, work experience in Canada)
- Transferability (education, foreign work experience and qualifications)
- Additional factors (provincial nomination, etc.)
-
Remind those who have a work permit and are interested in applying for permanent residence through EE to apply as soon as possible before spring comes!
This policy will not affect candidates who are applying!
